A Forceful Plea

It's not often that I use this platform to ask for anything from its readership. But I am going to ask each of you to do one thing: Contact your elected representatives in congress and ask them not to pass this ridiculous "compromise" on torture. You can do it by e-mail or phone or both.

If you live in the United States of America and you love this nation as much as I do, please do this. Thank you.

I heard John McCain speak when I was in high school. He was a graduate of EHS, and I was very impressed by the man. Is this bill what he has proposed, or something he proposed that was altered, or something totally Dubya? BTW, I'm not in complete agreement with McCain on everything, but I'm still angry Dubya's cronies bought the nomination in 2000, because I think McCain would have been better. That being said, I think Mr. Greenjeans or Captain Kangaroo woujld have been better. Maybe even Mr. Moose.

No, this is NOT the bill he and Senator Warner and Senator Graham proposed. Dubya still gets to torture people. And he gets immunity from prosecution for war crimes (which torture most certainly is).

I used to admire Senator McCain. But the way he gave BushCo a pass for insulting his wife and child in South Carolina during the primary has undone all my confidence in him. If he can't protect the honor and reputation of his family, how can he do the same for the nation?
